What I do hasn’t really changed. I’m always looking for an engaging stories that will stand out and make a difference.
I spent the first ten years of my career in Australia as a freelance communications consultant with a specialism in science and environmental issues. I was also a freelance journalist, writing for the state newspaper in Western Australia, my local newspaper and many other publications. I produced radio programs and won grants for radio documentaries and other creative projects. I won awards for journalism and communications.
In 2001, I moved to the UK, where I was employed by one of the biggest, most well known children’s charities in the UK for eleven years (NSPCC). Half that time I spent in the award-winning media team, working on campaigns and launches, and responding to news. The other half, I drove the case study function, setting up a story unit which revolutionised the approach to creating ethical, powerful and efficient stories across all communications and fundraising activities including press, marketing, DDM, events, social media, web and other digital outputs etc.
Since 2013, I’ve been a freelance consultant again, creating powerful stories and communication strategies. I have a constant eye out for new ideas, making great things happen and I work with some of the best people.
I’m also an award-winning published poet. Poetry helps keep my obsessions with creativity and choosing the right words on their toes. My poetry and creative projects are on another site: http://cathdrake.com/
